Zelf een nachtkastje met USB-aansluiting maken doe je zo!

Tot kort geleden kon ik mijn telefoon niet naast mijn bed opladen. Best lastig als je je telefoon als klok en wekker gebruikt en er geen stopcontact in de buurt is… Vanaf nu is dat verleden tijd! Wij hebben een nieuw multifunctioneel nachtkastje met een ingebouwde USB-aansluiting. En het leuke is… dit maak je gemakkelijk zelf. 

Ken je bij IKEA die slimme meubels zoals lampen waar je je telefoon op kunt leggen en zich draadloos oplaadt? Wat ze ook verkopen, zijn draadloze USB-laders die je in je eigen meubelen kunt integreren. Blijkbaar is dit zo populair dat ze in het begin continu uitverkocht waren. Toen we laatst naar IKEA gingen (en er eigenlijk totaal niet meer aan dachten), liepen we er bij toeval tegen aan.

Want wat wij graag wilden, was een slim nachtkastje maken. Ofwel: een nachtkastje met een USB-aansluiting c.q. oplaadstation maken. Eén kleine uitdaging: hiervoor hebben we houten nachtkastjes nodig, waarin we een ronde uitsparing kunnen maken waar de USB-lader of draadloze oplader inpast. Die hadden we dus niet, maar laten we alvast die oplaadstations meenemen, dan hebben we het vast in huis…  Toevallig vonden we kort daarna bij Kwantum het perfecte nachtkastje… één waar we ook de snoeren in weg konden werken. Je raad het al: 1 + 1 = 2. Met als resultaat dat wij nieuwe nachtkastjes hebben en mijn probleem met het opladen van mijn telefoon is opgelost!

Benodigdheden

• Houten nachtkastje
• Draadloze USB-lader of draadloze oplader van IKEA
• Decouper- of gatenzaag
• Schuurpapier

Werkwijze

1. Haal de draadloze oplader USB-lader uit de verpakking en volg de instructies zoals aangegeven in de IKEA-handleiding.
2. Teken de ronding van de lader af op het blad van je nachtkastje.
3. Zaag vervolgens met een decoupeer- of gatenzaag het afgetekende deel uit. Het hoeft niet heel perfect, want aan de bovenkant van de lader zit een bredere rand die over het gat heen valt.
4. Schuur het gat in het houten blad lichtjes op zodat er geen scherpe randen meer zijn.
5. Volg verder de instructies in de handleiding om het laadstation aan te sluiten.
6. Mocht je net – als wij – een nachtkastje hebben waar de snoeren in uit komen, dien je nog een gat achter in het nachtkastje boren.

Until a few weeks ago I couldn’t charge my phone next to my bed. Quite an issue when you use your phone as a clock and alarm clock and there is no socket nearby… From now on, this issue is the past! We have new multifunctional bedside tables with a built-in charging station. And the cool thing is… you can easily make it yourself.

Did you know IKEA sells smart furniture such as lamps where you can put your phone on and he automatically recharges? What they also sell are chargers you can integrate into your own furniture. It is so popular, in the beginning this was always sold out. When we recently went to IKEA (and didn’t really think about it anymore), we ran into it by chance.

What we want to make, is a smart bedside table. Better said: create a bedside table with a charging station. A small challenge, therefore we would need wooden bedside tables, where we can make a round recess where the charging station fits. At that moment, it wasn’t something we had, but we decided to already buy these charging stations…. By chance we found the perfect bedside table at Kwantum (Dutch furniture store)… 1 + 1 = 2. As result, we now have new bedside tables and my problem with charging my phone has been solved!

What do you need?

• Wooden bedside table
• Integrated USB charger or integrated charger from IKEA
• Jigsaw
• Sandpaper

What to do

1. Remove the charger from the packaging and follow the instructions as indicated in the IKEA manual.
2. Mark the rounding of the charger on the top of your bedside table.
3. Then cut the rounding with a jigsaw. It doesn’t have to be very perfect, because the top of the charger got a wider edge that falls over the hole.
4. Sand the hole in the wooden top slightly so that the sharp edges are gone.
5. Follow the instructions in the manual to connect the charging station.
6. If you have a bedside table where the wires goes in, you have to drill another hole in the bedside table.
