4 x vintage in je interieur

18 september 2020

At mi casa - mix & match eetkamerstoelen

Vintage has been the new modern for years now! Interior magazines are full of it. But how do you integrate vintage furniture in a modern interior? Today 4 x inspiration for your home.

Regularly people approach me about my blog and my interior. When I tell people I only bought a few pieces of furniture new and the rest is vintage, they always look quite surprised. Yes, how cool is it to transform old furniture into stylish, hip furniture of this time! Your one-of-a-kind piece of furniture, in your own style and also for a very nice price.

Okay, I have to admit: it does cost quite some time. For example when I am sanding, I regularly tell myself this really is the last project. What a tedious job that is. But once you are painting and you see the old, discarded furniture blossom, it really gives you a rush.

Well, let’s go! Herewith 4 x inspiration for vintage in your interior.

1. Combine different dining room chairs

Interior magazines are really full of this: combining different dining room chairs. I’ve wanted this for so long, because it really looks great! You can of course buy your chairs new … but another possibility is the thrift shop. You might find a nice chair here for a great price. Paint this in the color(s) you want and here you go, your own personal style is a fact! A plus of this tip: it’s really budget-proof.

2. Go for a vintage cabinet

Everyone needs storage space. After all, we all want a tidy house, right? Here too you can go for a trendy, modern cupboard that you buy at one of the furniture stores. But… it can also be done differently. Does your grandmother or your parents have an old-fashioned dresser or closet, which they don’t need anymore! This might be something for you. Paint it in a nice color and tadaaaa you have given an old piece of furniture a new life. For example, I found our school cupboard for € 100. We painted it. Hello eye-catcher!

3. Vintage tables are for beginners

My coffee tables are a favorite in my house. I will never sell these! Actually this was my very first DIY project. For the beginners among us, this is really something for you. If you come across a nice old table, don’t hesitate and buy it! It’s quite easy to transform these kind of furniture. In other words, the ideal object to practice on.

4. Vintage tools and materials such as home accessories

My construction ladder … I have had this for years! Have I ever told you the story? That’s what I love about vintage furniture – the story that goes with it. A few years ago you couldn’t open an interior magazine without seeing a ladder in the interior. I wanted that too! On Marktplaats I found a farmer who had a number of old wooden construction ladders. So when I got there, the ladder was longer than 3 meters. Well, that wouldn’t fit: not in the car, not in the house. So the farmer was kind enough to cut the ladder in half. When he heard what I was going to use it for, he wondered if I was feeling well. Anyway: I paid the ladder, loaded into my car, cleaned it and now it has been serving as a towel, clothing and kitchen rack for years. In addition to old ladders, it is also really nice to display old tools such as pliers, hammers or toolboxes in your home.
