5x must-do roadtrip West-Amerika

6 juni 2019

In Amerika? Het land van de onbegrensde mogelijkheden… Waar alles groot, groter, grootst is…

1. Hike Wall Street in Bryce Canyon

Wall Street, hey dat is toch in New York?

4. Once in a lifetime: Grand Canyon

Ongelooflijk, he?

5. Mega-cactussen in Saguaro National Park

Have you always wanted to make a road trip through West America? I say: Go for it! And then you really can’t skip these 5 places!

Have you ever been there? In the USA? The land of unlimited possibilities … Where everything is big, bigger, biggest … The land of the American dream. I have been there a number of times now, and it has exceeded my expectations! It’s so nice to see and experience everything in real life. Think of large cups of coffee in the subway, dinners and free refills, the typical images such as Times Square, the Strip in Las Vegas and the grand nature. In 2016 I made a road trip through the South West of America for the first time and in 2019 a new trip is planned. Here are my top 5 must-do’s that you shouldn’t miss:

1. Hike Wall Street in Bryce Canyon

Wall Street, hey, isn’t that in New York? Yes, it is, but you also have a Wall Street in Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. Bryce Canyon is famous for its special rock amphitheaters, the so-called hoodoos. And therefore one of my favorite parks. The different viewpoints are already incredibly beautiful, but it’s highly recommended to go hiking in this park. Tip: do the Navajo trail of 2.2 kilometers. You will find the start and end point at Sunset Point. You will zigzagging down into Wall Street. This is a narrow canyon with a number of large Douglass trees. After that you pass all kinds of super beautiful points. Guaranteed that you keep taking photos. So put on your good hiking shoes!

2. Delicate Arch

Nowhere else in the world can you find more arches than in Arches National Park. This park is also located in the state of Utah. The best arch is Delicate arch. To view this arch, you first have to endure a tough hike. Tough, because you walk uphill and there is no shadow. But … really … it’s worth it. You also need good walking shoes for this hike, and don’t forget to bring a large bottle of water!

3. Play the lead role in Monument Valley

No doubt you have seen a typical American Western movie at one point in your life. With beautiful red-colored rock formations in the background. Big chance that this film was shot in Monument Valley. This park on the border of Utah and Arizona is definitely my number 1 must-visit if you are traveling in the West of America. This park is extremely suitable for taking Instagram-worthy photos. Play the lead role in your own Western movie! For example, make a great trip by horse through the park. Don’t you like this, you can drive down the unpaved Valley Road with your passenger car. Note: this isn’t officially allowed by most car rental companies.

4. Once in a lifetime: Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon … You must have seen this phenomenon once in your life. Because no photo or video can capture how special and majestic this wonder of the world is. You really have to see this with your own eyes. This national park is located in Arizona and is divided into two parts. The most beautiful, but also the most busy part is the South Rim. You can view the canyon here from various overlook points. Did you know that the deepest part is 2 kilometers deep? Unbelievable, right?

5. Mega cacti in Saguaro National Park

If you are a cactus fan, then Saguaro National Park is it for you! Saguaro National Park is located near Tuscon in Arizona and is known for the mega-cacti or saguaros. And I mean really big cacti of 15 meters high and more than 50 years old. Tip: visit in the period from May to June, then dozens of white flowers bloom on the cacti. In the months of June and July the red fruit that grows on cactus is ripe. Also very pretty to see!
